10 Halifax Photoshoot Locations to Take Swoon-Worthy Photos

When planning a photo shoot, one of the most exciting parts is deciding what location to choose! Halifax is filled to the brim with beautiful locations within 90 minutes of the city, so many that it can be so hard to decide between them to the point of being overwhelmed! I totally get that feeling, so I’ve compiled a list of the most gorgeous locations in my opinion, sectioned into coastal, downtown, and forest locations. Are you excited yet?! I’m freakin’ SO excited!!

P R O T I P: Planning to start your shoot 90 minutes before sunset or an hour before sunrise almost always guarantees the best experience. <3

The coast has a special place in my heart. As an Ontario girl born and raised, one of the main reasons I fell in love with Nova Scotia was the coastlines, ruggedly lined with mossy rocks, the sound of the water, decorated with foggy horizons. Here’s my favourite places if you’re looking for a place like that.

1. Duncan’s Cove Hiking Trail
Distance from Halifax: 25 minute drive
The trail itself is ridiculously long, offering rocky cliffs with a quintessential Nova Scotia lighthouse in the background.

2. Herring Cove Look-off Trail
Distance from Halifax: 20 minute drive
Think forest trails next to a Peggy’s Cove-reminiscent huge-rock covered shore. That’s this.

3. Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park
Distance from Halifax: 35 minute drive
This is a “cuddle in the sand and long grass while listening to the waves” kind of photo session location. It’s the kind of session where you leave your shoes in the car, and maybe prepare to get your ankles wet. ;)

4. High Head Trail
Distance from Halifax: 30 minutes
Want rocky shorelines and sweeping ocean backdrops combined with green, breath taking cliffs? This spot is a little bit more of a hike than the other spots on the list, but it couldn’t be more worth it for the result.

6. Conrad’s Beach
Distance from Halifax: 30 minute drive
This beach is just so dreamy. Endless water and sandy beach, and endless fields of long grass. Not to mention the windy boardwalk and little ponds along the way. Just so in love.

1. Halifax Public Gardens
This Victorian-era historical garden is right in the middle of the city, filled with so many varieties of flowers, little bridges over streams, and all of those perfect little details that give it so much charm. If you’re aiming for colourful and bright, Halifax Public Gardens is the perfect place for your photos.

2. Point Pleasant Park
Forest trails with old military forts to spark excitement in history-buffs. We will also 100% run into at least a dozen dogs since it’s an off-leash area, which like, what more could you want?!

3. Halifax Waterfront
A classic downtown Halifax environment for people that feel more at home in the city than out on a trail, but still have the ocean right there. There’s so many options, from making your photo shoot a date to Cow’s Ice Cream on the boardwalk, to dancing around atop a parkade with historic and modern Halifax buildings surrounding you and the ocean breeze in your hair.

  1. Long Lake Provincial Park
Distance from Halifax: 15 minute drive

This park is chock-full of trees, windy trails and of course a lake that stretches long enough to provide so many different options for spots that suit you the best - whether that be hopping rocks across a stream or cuddled in the ferns surrounded by trees.

F I N A L N O T E:

WHOOP WHOOOOP

You made it to the end of my blog post!! Before I let you go, I just wanted to let you in on something that hopefully alleviates some stress while you’re waiting for and planning for a photo session.

Locations are not what it’s all about. What it’s about is connection - it’s the connection you have with the love of your life, the connection you build with your photographer in order to create seamlessly meaningful images, the connection you want to remember and preserve of you with your family. Choose a location that sparks happiness when you think of it, even if that’s just your home!

I cannot waaaiiiittt to meet you and photograph a piece of your life. I already know that you’re so amazing, because you’re deciding to love yourself and your people enough to document it. <3
